A MEISSEN TEABOWL, circa 1740, painted to both sides with fortified harbour scenes depicting small figures and buildings by the water’s edge, within unusual diaper, gilt scale and scrollwork cartouches shaped like chinoiserie pavilions and edged in black, flanked by small puce figures of tradesmen including one lifting a plank and one a barrel, sprays of indianische Blumen to either side, the inner rim with a gilt scrollwork border reserved with four puce landscape vignettes, 8cm diameter, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, gold letter Z., impressed Dreher’s mark for Johann Chistoph Schumann and / inside the footrim PROVENANCE: Private German collection.
