A CHINESE JADE CARVING OF A MYTHICAL BEAST. Ming Dynasty. Carved with the legs tucked underneath its scaly body, its lifted head detailed with a pair of horns and bulging eyes, with long flaring whiskers touching its chest, the stone with brownish russet inclusions, 6.5cm H. Provenance: European private collection, acquired in China in the 1950s, thence by descent to the present owner.
