A late 20th century Persian (Iranian) silver tea glass holder and sugar bowl set, Isfahan circa 1995 by Seyyed Hassan Jouzdani (b.1928, d.c. 2022)

Post-Pahlavi. Comprising twelve tea glass holders, twelve spoons and a covered twin handled sugar bowl. The tea glass holder with a C scroll handle raised upon three ball feet, each with chased monabbat-kari and engraved ghalam zani decoration of various figural scenes of musicians or village scenes with animals. The sugar bowl raised upon four chased feet, the body decorated with four circular vignettes of figures; a man using a hookah, two learned figures reading, two lady musicians one playing the barbat (lute), another with a figure gesturing with a wine cup to a Sáki with a long necked bottle, all reserved with chased fish scale decoration. The terminals each chased with a figure. Together with twelve clear glass liners. (25)

Born in Isfahan in 1928, Jouzdani began study to work silver at age 14, operating independently since at least the 1970’s. Found on a variety of wares it appears the Jouzdani enterprise also acted as a retailer for other Persian silver including examples of Tabriz type Persepolis wares. A Mahmoud Jouzdani currently operates in Chaharbagh Abbasi Street, Isfahan.

Purchased by the vendor from Jouzdani in 1995.
