A mid-20th century Burmese unmarked silver large bowl, Rangoon circa 1949 by a ‘leaf maker’

Of bellied circular form, the body with decoration of figures dressed in longyi in various depictions, within arched reserves interspaced between vacant shield shape cartouches and scroll work. All above a band a leaf lunettes each with an inscription in Burmese correlating to the scenes above. The underside with makers sigil and stamped inscription ‘From U San Mya and U Pan Aung to Colonel and Mrs. Hinds June 1949’.

Weight – 1121 grams / 36.04 ozt

There was a Brigadier General Sidney Rae Hinds (1900-1991), United States Army, who was awarded the Army Distinguished Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility as Commanding General, Combat Command B, 2d Armoured Division, in 1945.
