A rare mid-19th century Anglo – Indian silver teapot, Cutch, Bhuj, circa 1860 by Oomersi Mawji (active 1860-90)

Raj period, of compressed circular form upon a spreading circular foot, the curved spout opposite an acanthus capped C scroll handle fitted with bone insulators pinned to sockets. The gently domed hinged lid surmounted by a detachable cast gourd finial. The body with chased decoration of foliate scrolls with rosettes between bands of acanthus leaves, the spout, handle lid and hinge decorated the same. Marked underneath O,M only, the finial unmarked the later retaining nut with lion passant only.
