AN EMBROIDERED HANGING  Isfahan, Iran, circa 1880 The trousseau-grade ( bibi-baaf ) work of rectangular form, the black silk velvet ground finely chain-stitched in coloured silks with rows of small butis in alternating directions, the border with crescent-shaped floral arches within two narrow borders of geometrically framed flowerheads, lined with off-white cotton, 220cm x 174cm.
