A late 19th / early 20th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver twin handled tray, Calcutta circa 1900
Raj period, of hexa-lobed form with cavetto edge, applied with Chinese style simulated bamboo twin handles, heightened with chased decoration. All raised on four hemispherical feet. The field with finely embossed decoration in village pattern, depicting a continuous scene with cattle, mountainscapes, cypress and palm trees, boatsmen, two figures carrying a sedan chair behind a procession leading to a Haveli (Indian town house) with a portico showing figure using a hookah. The centre with a heart shaped cartouche engraved with initials in cypher CR in gothic script.
