An early 20th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver three-piece tea service, Calcutta circa 1910
Comprising a teapot, milk jug and twin handled sugar bowl. Each of globular form upon gently domed circular foot, each with a wavey rim. The wrought and chased handled form ad cobras. The teapot with a curved spout opposite the handle with inset ivory insulators, the hinged domed lid surmounted by a figure of a seated man. The bodies with finely embossed and deep chased relief decoration of vignettes within architraves, each depicting a different scene. Some showing village pattern with people in front of traditional housing, using oxen to plough a field, gathering crops, preparing food. The teapot with a scene of a boatman in steering his cargo boat (kosha) and a riparian scene of a Ganga riding Makara before offerings. (3)
