A Victorian sterling silver ‘castle top’ vinaigrette, Birmingham 1840 by Gervase Wheeler

Formed as a purse, the hinged lid with a scene of Windsor castle, the shaped body with chased decoration of rosettes and foliage. The underside engraved with initials LGJ in cursive script. Scroll sides with belcher chain attachments with a chased finger ring. The gilt interior with a hinged pierced and engraved foliate scroll grill. Fully marked between the top and bottom.

Length (across) – 4 cm / 1.5 inches

Weight – 17 grams / 0.55 ozt
