Spencer (Stanley)
Autograph letter signed ('Stanley Spencer') to a Mr Holden, in pencil, reading "I am so sorry not to have let you know before for certain that I should not be able to come before Christmas but I have had a horrid time with a stone in the ureter which refused to move and my condition was becoming more serious. But now mercifully the stone has freed itself and the surgeon (Mr Joyce) is taking it out tomorrow morning. I should be fit to leave here just before Christmas. It would not have been possible for me to have come any time between last October and now. I feel happy to be at last free from this complaint which, on and off has menaced me for four years", two pages, staining to upper margin due to rusty paperclip and partially affecting two words, staple holes to the right side, 8vo, Dunedin, Bath Road, Reading, n.d. [but 1934, according to email from the Archivist at the Stanley Spencer Gallery]
