A MEISSEN PORCELAIN FIGURE OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT EMBLEMATIC OF GREECE, circa 1750, modelled by J.J. Kaendler, wearing a plumed helmet, turquoise cloak with a pink lining, over armour picked out in gilt, and a yellow tunic, a four-headed hound beside him, raised on a scrollwork base heightened in gilding, 21.3cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue FOOTNOTES: the set of four figures representing the Four Monarchies of the ancient world, including Assyria, Persia, Greece and Rome, were modelled by Kaendler around 1750. They are recorded in the 1753 inventory of Count Brühl's Conditorei and also in a price list of 1765. Kaendler reworked these figures in February 1767. See E.
