Born in Calcutta in 1817, educated in England, and then returned to India where he married and worked for the East India Company. Recorded in 1841 as an examiner then head clerk, law, in the Secret and Political Department, but seems to have taken up photography in the 1850's before moving to Chandernagor where the only album of Oehme's work studied to date has emerged.
