A PAIR OF MEISSEN TEABOWLS, circa 1730, with slightly everted rims, both painted with chinoiserie scenes of figures engaged in various pursuits, including drinking tea, within gilt scrollwork cartouches filled with Böttger lustre and edged with purple and iron-red scrollwork, the interiors decorated with flowering plants issuing from stylised rockwork, the rims with gilt scroll and strapwork borders, 5cm high, gilt letter K. and impressed .. inside the footrim of both for Johann Martin Kittel (2) PROVENANCE: Private German collection. FOOTNOTES: Sketches of similar figures to those depicted on these teabowls can be found on plates 21 and 23 of the Schulz Codex.
