AN IZNIK-STYLE PALESTINIAN POTTERY VASE
Palestine, Holy Land, late 19th - 20th century
Of compressed bulbous shape, resting on a circular base, rising to wide shoulders and a straight cylindrical neck with reinforced rim, painted in blue turquoise and red against a white slip-painted earthenware body, decorated in the Ottoman Iznik pottery style comprising a traditional hatayi pattern with scrolling vegetal sprays stemming from stylised lotus buds and getting intertwined with rosettes and saz leaves, a band of large rosettes and saz leaves repeated around the neck, the base marked Palestine, 27cm high.
