SECOND AFGHAN WAR, c.1878-9. A group of albumen prints (3), each measuring approx. 195 x 300mm, unmounted, two signed and numbered by the photographer in the negative. Prints of two of these images are held by the Royal Collection Trust: a photograph of the Khyber Pass, taken from a high vantage point before the advance of the British forces, which also includes a small group of Indian soldiers in the lower right foreground [RCIN 2501323]; one view of a military camp on Shagai Heights, a plateau at the edge of the Khyber Pass; Fort of Ali Masjid is in the distance to the far left [RCIN 2501330].
