WESTERN AUSTRALIA, 1890s
CANNING MILLS, TIMBER INDUSTRY & RAILWAYS, 1890s. Toned early silver prints (6), each measuring 110 x 150mm, four erroneously annotated 'New Zealand' verso in unknown hand in pencil.
An interesting group of early settlement photographs from Western Australia, including two scenes identified as Canning Mills, a suburb of Perth, by Kalamunda & Districts Historical Society and Gordon Freegard of the Pickering Brook Heritage Group. One view identifies the Timber Mill, as served by an early railcar; the other a passenger train from Canning Mills with a man posing in front of the train's engine, along with two engineers. Also includes two scenic views of waterfalls, a hunting portrait of a man outside of a his home with a recent kangaroo kill, and a scene of an exceptionally large logged tree, marked in its end as having a 16-ft girth and 16-ft length.
