TWO STANDING PORTRAITS OF INDIAN NOBLEMEN
Rajasthan, North-Western India, late 19th century
Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, comprising two standing portraits of Indian noblemen, the first wearing a gold-embroidered green shalwaar kamiz over red pajama trousers, in tune with Mughal fashion standards and tradition, 33.4cm x 21.5cm; and the latter a posthumous portrait of Raja Todar Mal (1500 - 1589), the Finance Minister under the Mughal Emperor Akbar's reign, wearing a long green robe in tune with Rajasthani fashion standards, 32cm x 23cm.
