Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper and cardboard, comprising five seated portraits of Sawai Ram Singh II, the successor of Jai Singh II, including one painting at a young age, set within red oval borders, 33.5cm x 26cm; and four portraits in his adult age replicating the popular indoor studio style typical of 19th-century black and white photographs providing a classic example of the new photo-realistic language of Indian paintings in the late 19th and 20th centuries, the compositions a true mix of Indian and Western objects and decor, the largest 50cm x 39.5cm.
