A BLUE AND WHITE MULTAN POTTERY VASE AND DISH
Multan, Pakistan, 18th and 19th century

Comprising a bulbous vase, resting on a short circular foot, rising to a tapering tubular neck, painted in cobalt blue against white ground, the decoration consisting of a tiger hunting scene with noble Rajput riders on horses running after two tigers, the scene encased within horizontal registers of fleshy palmettes to the neck and base, 25.5cm high; and an early Multan pottery dish, of circular shape, resting on a short circular foot, in the central medallion a floral triumph with stylised lotus flowers, tulips and rosettes, encased within scrolling vegetal meanderings with grapes and fleshy leaves, 24cm diam.
