A well-preserved bronze incense burner possibly from South India, crafted in the form of a yali. The yali is a mythical creature,often depicted as a powerful lion with a long body and sharp claws. As a creature that encapsualted the strength of the strongest animals, the lion, the elephant and the horse, the Yali motif, symbolizing protection, was frequently used in temple architecture and utilitarian objects.This incense burner captures the yali's form in a restrained and static pose. The surface of the bronze exhibits intricate details, showcasing the craftsmanship.
