A NORTH AFRICAN POTTERY ROSEWATER SPRINKLER
Possibly Morocco or Tunisia, North Africa, late 19th - early 20th century
Of pyriform shape, resting on a wide splayed circular foot and rising to a tapering neck, with sinuous handle and spout on each side, the stopper fashioned in a rosette-like shape, painted in turquoise, cobalt blue, yellow and manganese purple over a white ground, the body decorated with a band of repeating crescents and vegetal flourishes, a stylised floral scroll to the neck, with a series of later-added red-painted marks highlighting losses to the glazed surface of the sprinkler, 25.5cm high.
