Walter Zadek (1900-1992)

ISRAEL INTEREST, late 1930s. Group of vintage silver gelatin prints (10), measuring between 175 x 130mm and 180 x 240mm, (8) with Zadek's Tel Aviv studio stamp, most with German title and number annotations verso. The group is comprised of scenes of young Jewish pioneers in Palestine.

Born in Berlin in 1900, Zadek worked as a socialist journalist and edited the "Berliner Tageblatt", and was imprisoned by the Nazis in 1933. After his release, he settled in Tel Aviv, and began working as a freelance press photographer, and founded the "Palestine Professional Photographers' Association", which was active from 1939-1941.
