Born in London, Thorp studied under the drawing master Herbert Dicksee at the City of London School and at the Royal Academy Schools. At the age of seventeen, he became the youngest elected member of the Artist's Society. He also joined the Langham Art Club and was a member of the London Sketch Club and Chelsea Art Club. Famous for his marine scenes, here he captures one of the most iconic buildings by the river, which opened its doors to visitors in 1951.
