A British Napoleonic era (probably c.1796-1805) infantry officer's sword or sabre, featuring a highly curved blue and gilt decorated blade. The blade being 68cm long in a straight line from tip to hilt and unfullered. The engraving on the blade, which is enhanced with gilded highlights, includes the crowned GR of George III, the Royal coat of arms and 'Warranted' written in a scroll. There is no sign of a maker's name. Hilt in the 1796 light cavalry style, as is common with infantry flank officer's sabres of c.1800. The guard and backstrap in polished steel, with faceted backstrap and pommel. The grip covered in black leather and with silver wire. The matching scabbard also in polished steel, with double rings. Total length of sword 80cm.
