The rectangular document holder designed as a book, with a red velvet binding, the edges of the box with a gentle grain to give the impression of pages, the inside of the box divided into two compartments and lined in a peach-coloured velvet, in the centre a large mother-of-pearl shell plaque carved with scenes of the Passion of Christ including his entering Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and the Crucifixion, 12 further mother-of-pearl roundels surrounding the central plaque, engraved with roses, doves, and floral sprays, the plaque 16.5cm diam. and the document holder 30.5cm x 42cm.
