A very high quality Swedish naval officer's sword or cutlass, marked to the reign of Charles XIV John (Karl XIV Johan), from the first half of the 19th century. The straight and single-fullered 64cm blade has applied gilt highlighting to the engraving, which includes the Royal monogram and naval anchor with trident emblem. The guard and backstrap of gilt bronze with a lot of the original gilding remaining, the pommel having the form of a dolphin's head. The grip of carved ivory. Total length 77cm.
