TWO PALESTINIAN POTTERY DISHES

Comprising two dishes of shallow circular shape, each resting on a short foot, the first imitating Ottoman Iznik wares, featuring a long curving saz leaf imposed over bending stems of carnations and tulips, all issuing from a small tuft of grass, underglaze painted in a palette of cobalt blue, turquoise, green and purple, with black outlines, all on a white ground, the reverse plain, 26.5cm diam.; and the second underglaze painted in black, turquoise, yellow and bole red, featuring a central roundel filled with a stylised calligraphic inscription, framed within two floral scrolls, the rim decorated with a stylised palmette and rosette motifs, the reverse plain, the dish set upside down in a spring model hanging mechanism, 26.5cm diam.
