A JAPANESE TANTO (SHORT SWORD).
Edo period, attributed to Kunihiro.
The blade of hirazukuri with gunome hamon, the nakago with two mekugiana inscribed (kuni)hiro; the black lacquer saya with samekawa handle wrapped in a brown silk cord with a sentoku ‘carp’ menuki, fitted with iron fuchikashira in gold hirazogan arabesque motif and a tsuba with kiku against a nanako ground, nagasa 23cm, total length, 43.5cm.
