TWO DATED PANELS OF SHIKASTEH NASTA’LIQ CALLIGRAPHY
Qajar Iran, dated 1246 AH (1830 AD) and 1248 AH (1832 AD)

Persian manuscripts on paper, comprising a fine poetic folio, the text laid out in chevron-format diagonals and marginal diagonal parallels, dated 1248 AH (1832 AD) in the upper right corner, set within pink and aubergine borders, and green, black, and gold rules, in a double mount of textured khaki green and taupe colours, framed and glazed, the text panel 18.5cm x 10.6cm, 40cm x 29cm including the frame; and another panel, similarly framed, the buff paper edges embossed with European Neo-Classical fretwork bands and vegetal motifs, the text laid out in alternating diagonal pairs of poetic texts, signed Ahmad Shamlu and dated 1246 AH (1830 AD), set within a red and black double border, the mount similar to the previous example, the text panel 19cm x 11.5cm, 40cm x 29cm including the frame.
