Amedeo Preziosi, Stamboul: Souvenir d'Orient, second edition, tinted lithograph title, 28 chromolithographs mounted on thick paper, as issued, scattered spotting, mainly to mounts, engraved list of plates at end, hinges strengthened, original blind-stamped cloth, sympathetically rebacked, title in gilt to upper cover, stain to upper cover, wear and chipping to corners, [Blackmer 1353; Atabey 999], folio, Paris, Lemercier, 1865.
***Born in Malta, Preziosi's initial visit to Istanbul in 1842 sparked a lifelong dedication to portraying the city and its inhabitants. In 1866, he was invited to craft the official portrait of Ottoman Sultan Abdülaziz for the Turkish Pavilion at the 1867 Universal Exhibition in Paris.
