AFTER GIACOMO DELLA PORTA (ITALIAN, C.1533-1602): AN ITALIAN BRONZE OF A MALE NUDE STANDING ON A DOLPHIN the male figure holding aloft a horn in his left hand, holding the dolphin's tail in his right, his right foot resting on its head, over a shell-shaped basin, over a naturalistic base, 31cm high This bronze figure is based on the design Della Porta produced for the Fontana delle Tartarughe, in the Piazza Mattei, Rome. Taddeo Landini (Italian, 1561-1596) cast the bronze fountain to Della Porta's design between 1585 and 1588, and the tortoises from which it now takes its name were added later in 1658.
