A mid-Victorian Rifles officer's sword, made by Wilkinson and with a non-regulation special order 'Percy' style blade. Blade numbered 13281 (proved in June 1864), the sword was ordered and carried by Henry Nicholas Monck (later changed name to Middleton), 27 Jul 1845 – 6 Dec 1928. Monck joined the Rifle Brigade in 1864, was promoted to Lieut in 1868 and retired from the Army in 1870. He held various civic titles after leaving the Army. The sword features an 80.5cm double-edged straight blade of a special order (non-regulation) type that Wilkinson termed the 'Percy'. The blade is bright and clean, with crisp etching, including the Rifles horn and also Monck's initials with crest and motto. The 1827 pattern Rifles hilt is in equally bright and clean condition, with good shagreen and silver grip wire (a couple of thinner strands missing). The original black Rifles sword knot is still present. Housed in its matching scabbard.
