A COMPLETE PANEL OF FIGURAL SAFAVID-REVIVAL CUERDA SECA POTTERY TILES
Qajar Iran, mid to late 19th century
Comprising 12 square tiles joint with plaster, painted in cobalt blue, green, pink, yellow, brown, purple, black outlines against a white ground, the horizontal panel depicting two Persian riders hunting in the wilderness, the pink-clad hunter shooting at gazelles in the typical style called Parthian shot, the blue-clad rider in the front killing a tiger, the style reminiscent of 17th-century Safavid figural tile panels, set within a later wooden frame, 71cm x 91cm including the frame.
