From Saatchi Gallery, Loan of Art, pp. 40 - “Chilver layers various styles of painting on to each canvas, crossing from gestural abstraction to cartoon-like flatness and then impasto. He is fascinated by visual illusion and play, and how the mind doggedly reads two-dimensional spaces. In The District, a smeared landscape is overlaid with an opaque anthropomorphic shape and piped silicone birds, who appear to hover in front of the canvas.”
