A MEISSEN TEACUP AND SAUCER, circa 1745, with moulded Altbrandenstein basketwork borders, painted with the 'gelber Löwe' pattern of a tiger curling around bamboo, scattered indianische Blumen, birds perched on flowers, and insects to the rim, with gilt-edged rims and handle, the saucer 13.2cm diameter, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue and impressed numeral 24 to both (2) PROVENANCE: Private German collection. FOOTNOTES: The Altbrandenstein pattern was designed in 1741 by J.F. Eberlein for a service ordered by the Oberkuchenmeister of the Saxon court, Friedrich August von Brandenstein.
