TWO ORIENTALIST PORCELAIN MANTEL CLOCKS WITH RESTING TURKS MADE FOR THE TURKISH MARKET
France, mid to late 19th century
Comprising two turquerie mantel clocks, each assembled in two parts, with the body fashioned in rococo-style with scrolling feet, one encasing a twin train movement clock with outside countwheel and silk suspension striking on a bell (pendulum attached), the latter with an 1890's Lenzkirch 1 Million Pendulum Key Wind movement, serial number 466963, and a hinged circular glass case protecting the dial and back of the movement, each clock with a white enamel dial with Roman numerals, both bases surmounted by a polychrome-painted and gilt Turkish figure, resting on a small rocky mound, leaning head on hand, sword to his side and further daggers tucked in his sash, one figurine marked '523.', the other '100. / 401. / HUIZ(?)', each 35.4cm x 19cm x 8.5cm.
