A PAIR OF BACCARAT-STYLE PINK AND WHITE OPALINE GLASS LIDDED VASES PAINTED WITH GOL-O-BOLBOL MOTIF
France, late 19th - early 20th century
Each of baluster-like shape, resting on a stepped and gently splayed circular foot, rising to narrow shoulders and a tall cylindrical neck, surmounted by a dome-shaped lid with a gilt rounded knob at the top, moulded with Islamic-inspired geometric designs, the pink and white opaline glass body painted with the typical Persian literary topos, gol-o-bolbol (rose and nightingale) featuring a lonely nightingale perched on a thorny branch with roses and rosebuds, a further stylised palmette leaf register and white beaded bands around the foot and rim, each 47.5cm high.
