ATTRIBUTED TO GIUSEPPE MARCHESI CALLED IL SANSONE (BOLOGNA 1699 - 1771)

ATTRIBUTED TO GIUSEPPE MARCHESI CALLED IL SANSONE (BOLOGNA 1699 - 1771)
Saint Theresa visiting a prison
pen and brown ink with brown wash on paper, squarred up in black chalk
194 x 152 mm (7 4/5 x 6 in.)

The style of the present work is close in style to that of Aureliano Milani then Marcantonio Franceschini, both his teachers. The figures in Marchesi's drawings have a lilt and a sway, a rythmic interaction with each other and the setting unlike Milani. Comparable drawings are in the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh and in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Estimated at £800 - £1,000
