A FINE OCCUPATIONAL PORTRAIT STUDY OF A SURVEYOR IN A GARDEN WITH THE TOOLS OF HIS TRADE, c.1860s. Occupational quarter plate ambrotype of a surveyor, finely hand-coloured. The subject stands next to his theodolite, and holds what appears to be a compass in his other hand, in a walled garden surrounded by vegetation. Hand-colouring is rich and finely-executed throughout the plate, in a plain arched top, brass mat, sealed in a pinchbeck frame, housed in a side hinged red morroco case, with minor spine repair, VG
