PROVENANCE: With Peter Cardiff Fine Art

NOTES: Born in London, Bentley was articled to the engraver Theodore Fielding. He travelled to Paris for Fielding in 1825 to work on a book with plates by Richard Parkes Bonington whose work greatly influenced him. In 1827 he set up as an engraver and produced watercolours of coastal and river scenes of Britain and Northern France. He exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours, the Royal Institute and the British Institution.
