NIAGARA FALLS INTEREST, c.1880s

ALBUM OF RARE MAMMOTH NIAGARA FALLS VIEWS, c.1880s. Mammoth-plate albumen prints (9), depicting Niagara Falls and the Niagara Falls Suspension Bridge, along with one image of the frozen falls, each measuring from 320 x 410mm to 415 x 520mm, mounted on card recto. Housed in a large folio measuring 668 x 550mm, early 20th-century calf-backed purple paper boards.

The Niagara Falls Suspension Bridge was completed in 1855, and was the world's first working railway suspenion bridge. Until 1897, it acted as a border crossing between Canada and the United States, greatly increasing tourism and commercial trade on both sides of the Falls via three railways companies: Great Western Railway, New York Central Railroad and New York and Erie Rail Road.

Estimated at £800 - £1,200
