Marti (Jose)
Rare autograph document signed ('Jose Marti'), in Spanish, on the New York Delegation of the Cuban Revolutionary Party headed paper, being an internal communication statement to the Revolutionary Party and reading "Los elementos todos de la sociedad de Cuba y al honor que ha de impedir a los cubanos, de palabra o de obra, a los que mueren por ellos asi', en nombre de la patria, y deponer ante ella y ante su libre facultad, de constitucion la obra identica de dos generaciones, suscriben juntos la declaracion, por la responsabilidad comun de sua representacion, y en muestra de la unidad y solidez de la revolucion cubana, el Delegado del Partido Revolucionario Cubano, creado para ordinar y auxiliar la guerra actual y el General en Jefe electo en el por todos los membros activos del Ejercito Libertador", one page, folding marks, age-related browning overall, loss to top right corner not touching the text, folio, 29 January 1895.
***The statement is a quotation from the Manifesto of Montecristi, the official document of the Revolutionary Party in Cuba written by Marti with Máximo Gómez during his second exile. In this work, José Martí exposed the causes that lead Cuba to fight against Spain to become an independent nation, free from economic or military control by any foreign power. Martí returned to Cuba two months after the present document was written, and was killed in battle against Spanish troops only a month after.
