A KASHAN MOULDED LUSTRE CALLIGRAPHIC POTTERY TILE
Kashan, Iran, late 13th century
Of rectangular shape, the truncated moulded naskh inscription heightened with cobalt-blue glaze and reserved against a golden brown lustre ground with turquoise splashes, the decoration comprising vegetal tendrils and palmettes, the raised borders with a band of knot work to the bottom and with repeated intertwined arabesques with small cobalt highlights containing split palmettes at the top, framed, 28cm x 18.5cm excluding the frame.
