TWO BRONZE VESSELS WITH FLORIATED KUFIC BANDS
Possibly Khorasan, Seljuk Iran, 11th - 12th centuries

Comprising a small mortar, of compressed globular shape, resting on a flat circular base, the exterior engraved with three overlapping decorative bands with vegetal motifs, gridwork, and Kufic calligraphy, around the rim another band of floriated Kufic script interspersed with roundels in-filled with crosses, 6.5cm diam. and 5cm high; and a bronze lamp fitting, of bulbous shape, with a knob-like bottom and wide everted top, the exterior engraved with a single band of early floriated Kufic script, 9.5cm high.
