Churchill (Winston Spencer)
Harrow School Songs, signed and dated "Winston S. Churchill, December 1940" on front free endpaper, blue cloth with gilt lettering, minor handling wear, newspaper clippings pasted onto front pastedown, some unevenness of toning to signed page, 8vo, The Harrow School Book Shop, 1937.
***The volume was given by Churchill to his Private Secretary Sir John Rupert Colville after a visit to Harrow on December 18th, 1940, which Colville had arranged. The visit was initially scheduled on the 11th but was postponed as Churchill had a severe cold.
Sir John 'Jock' Rupert Colville (1915- 1987) was a British civil servant who was Assistant Private Secretary to Neville Chamberlain, Winston Churchill and Clement Attlee. As appears from Colville's diaries, Churchill was particularly fond of him and regarded him as a close friend.
