In 1931 Julian Trevelyan joined Stanley Hayter's atelier in Paris where he worked alongside artists such as Max Ernst, André Masson, Joan Miro and Pablo Picasso, all of whom were associated with Surrealism. Trevelyan went onto become a founding member of the British Surrealist Group and a selection of his paintings and etchings were included the 'International Surrealist Exhibition' at the New Burlington Galleries, London in 1936.
