Footnote:

Barbara Cartlidge (1922-2017) was a pioneering Berlin-born British jewellery designer, gallerist and historian. Her work is notable for its unconventionally stylish postwar avant-garde aesthetic. Born into the German Jewish elite, she fled Berlin in 1938 at age 16, ultimately settling in North London. She studied jewellery at the Central School of Arts and Crafts; now known as Central Saint Martins. In 1960, her solo exhibition at Heal’s garnered attention from Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. In 1971 Cartlidge co-founded the Electrum Gallery, on South Molton Street, the first UK gallery dedicated to international studio jewellery. Electrum Gallery quickly became one of the world's most prestigious and influential contemporary galleries. Her work can now be found in the V&A Museum and in 2016 The Goldsmith's Company hosted an exhibition of her work.
