Elisabetta Sirani, an Italian Baroque painter known for her remarkable talent and prolific output, especially considering her short life. She was born and lived in Bologna, where she was recognised as one of the most prominent female painters of her time.
During her career, Elisabetta produced an impressive number of works, completing over 200 paintings in her short life. She was known for her ability to capture emotion and drama in her historical and mythological paintings. Her style was characterised by vibrant colours, detailed compositions, and a strong emphasis on portraying the human figure.
Apart from her artistic achievements, Sirani was a trailblazer for women in the arts during a time when female artists faced significant challenges in gaining recognition and acceptance in the male-dominated art world. She established her own art academy in Bologna, which attracted students and followers, both male and female. Her academy contributed to the training and professional development of numerous artists.
