AN ENGLISH MUGHAL-STYLE PRINTED COTTON DAY DRESS
North of England, mid-19th century
The printed cotton of plum field enhanced with Mughal-inspired floral sprays in alternating rows, the front opening bodice lined in coarse cotton, the back cut in a fan pattern narrowing to a gathered waist, machine-stitched, buttonholes by hand, ecru hem, printed cotton ribbon to the sleeve edges, cotton tape inside left sleeve printed ‘Northampton Historical Society’, numbered 66.125 by hand, central back seam, loom width ca. 84cm, selvedges present, one inside pocket, 130cm long from the nape of the neck.
