A George III sterling silver bougie box, London 1794 by Henry Chawner (reg. 11th Nov 1786)
of cylindrical form with a moulded C scroll handle, opposite a pull off conical snuffer. A pull off lid with a cylindrical opening. Pierced slats to the side, the lid edge and base with bright cut engraved decoration of leaves. The lid engraved with a crest of hawk rising. The underside later engraved with initials F.D.C. Fully marked underneath, the lid with part-marks, the snuffer unmarked.
